+ What if I don’t see the type of project I think I have listed in your Services?

Don’t worry- all projects really are unique. Schedule a call or send me a message and we’ll discuss options for you.

+ How long does a typical project take to complete?

Full service projects generally take 6-8 weeks for the design phase to be complete. The scope of the project determines the length of time from design completion to installation and completion.

Custom DIY Design projects follow the initial same timeline, but the ordering of products is done on your own timeline so you can complete the project on your own schedule. Often it can be completed in a shorter timeframe because the items are sourced from online or local vendors.

+ What types of sources are used for Custom DIY?

High-quality products with great style are utilized for Custom DIY projects. We’ll use online sources that are easily available to you, as well as likely recommend local stores to shop and complete your plan.

+ What does "one space/room" mean?

This means that the majority of an entire room will be redesigned with primarily new product selections. Of course, using your existing pieces is fantastic and creates a truly personal look- I am all for that! It simply means that I will not design and select just 1 or 2 items or features in a room such as carpet, sofa or mirror. This in particular applies to Full Service Design.

+ What is the fee structure for projects?

A flat fee is used for the Custom DIY Design services (one price per project/space), while Full Service Design fees are determined per project. A long term renovation project may have an hourly fee structure so everyone’s time is used only when needed. The scope of work in a project determines the design fee. The scope of work and design fee are outlined in the detailed letter of agreement(contract).

All of these details will be discussed with you beforehand, and a contract will be signed between both of us before any work starts. This way, everyone knows what to expect when moving forward with a service.

+ What areas do you work in?

The greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin area is the sweet spot, but don’t hesitate to reach out for help with projects that are further away.

Glossary of Interior Design Terms

+ Full Service Design

All aspects of the project from initial concept to installation are managed by Ash Lane Design. Kick back and enjoy the process (and it is a process…)!

+ Trade Day

What is Trade Day? If your project is full service, it likely means I need some pros to help me fulfill your design. So, I schedule all of my excellent tradespeople to come on one day to talk through the project and get all of the information they need to provide me with a quote. Doing it all on one day allows everyone’s time to be respected-and also is a great way to talk through all of the moving parts of a project together.

+ Design Proposal

This letter of agreement outlines our policies to ensure we are on the same page to move forward with a Full Service project together.

+ Procurement

Once proposals are signed and payment is received, orders are placed and a timeline is set. All purchasing, design execution, and installation are completed by Ash Lane Design.

+ Installation and Reveal

This sounds easy, but takes a lot of coordination with a lot of moving parts: tradespeople, movers, cleaners, designers. And it takes time. If yours is a large project, it may even happen on more than one day (we’re magic but not superheroes). Styling also happens here, so if you have a significant styling aspect to your project, this may also add to the length of the install. But don’t worry- it is 100% worth it!!
